Position Overview

We are seeking a Government Relations and Stakeholder Engagement Officer to join our Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs team.

The successful candidate will:

  • Translate complex political, policy, and geopolitical developments into targeted, actionable intelligence
  • Enable clients to make informed strategic decisions

The officer will:

  • Build, maintain, and leverage relationships across government, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholder groups
  • Contribute to policy research, analysis, and strategic planning in support of both the company and its clients

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Relations

  • Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with:
    • Government officials
    • Policymakers
    • Regulatory authorities
    • Industry associations
    • Other relevant stakeholders
  • Proactively monitor stakeholder positions, influence, and priorities to inform strategic engagement
  • Coordinate stakeholder meetings, briefings, and engagements on behalf of clients and the company
  • Serve as a credible and trusted point of contact for government and regulatory stakeholders

Policy Research and Analysis

  • Monitor and analyse developments in legislation, regulations, and public policy across relevant sectors
  • Translate political, regulatory, and policy information into concise, actionable intelligence for internal teams and clients
  • Provide forward-looking assessments of potential policy and regulatory impacts and recommend engagement strategies
  • Prepare detailed briefings, policy notes, and reports tailored to clients’ operational and strategic needs

Client Liaison and Advisory

  • Serve as the primary interface between clients and the company on government and regulatory matters
  • Present insights, updates, and strategic recommendations in client-facing engagements
  • Collaborate with internal teams to design and implement engagement campaigns aligned with clients’ business objectives

Planning, Coordination, and Programme Implementation

  • Coordinate internal and external activities related to government relations programmes, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Support the execution of advocacy campaigns, events, and strategic interventions
  • Monitor progress of engagement programmes, track outcomes, and provide regular updates to management and clients

Monitoring, Reporting, and Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of:
    • Stakeholder interactions
    • Meeting outcomes
    • Policy developments
  • Support reporting and analytics functions to demonstrate programme impact and inform strategic adjustments
  • Manage day-to-day administrative tasks related to government relations and stakeholder engagement

Key Competencies

  • Relationship building and networking: Ability to establish trust-based relationships with senior government and industry stakeholders
  • Planning and coordination: Capacity to plan, prioritise, and execute complex engagement programmes
  • Programme implementation: Experience tracking, reviewing, and delivering successful initiatives
  • Policy and political insight: Deep understanding of South Africa’s policymaking framework, government cluster system, and political landscape
  • Analytical skills: Ability to synthesise complex information into clear, actionable intelligence
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including briefing notes, reports, and presentations

Academic Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, preferably in:
    • Politics
    • International Relations
    • Economics
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in:
    • Stakeholder relations
    • Government
    • Research
    • Public policy
  • Full Microsoft Office proficiency, with excellent command of PowerPoint
  • Valid Code 8 or Code 10 driver’s licence (mandatory)
